Inspired by the 2004 Bratz doll collection “Tokyo-a-go-go” and the early 1900s Edwardian/Gibson Girl aesthetic, artist and designer Janelle Abbott (JRAT) has painted, slashed, and spliced together deadstock and damaged Prairie Underground garments to create one of a kind works of art. In keeping with JRAT’s unique approach to the zero waste methodology, these pieces are “densely pleated, boldly clashing, and unexpectedly rhythmic.” Janelle’s work is scrappy, unapologetic, and a testament to just how much time and energy it takes for real humans to create every consumer product we engage with—this collection is a celebration of the tireless work and hardline commitment to ethical and sustainable fashion that both Prairie Underground and JRAT share.
Come see the garments in motion as the Prairie Underground warehouse transforms into a catwalk with music by SHESGUCCI. Post runway, shop the AUGHTY GRRRLZ collection which features over 160 original pieces.
On display in the gallery will be a series of collaborative collages and illustrations by Janelle Abbott and Skaidra Shiels, inspired by the collection. VIEW ARTIST INSTALLATION & SHOP THE COLLECTION SATURDAY JUNE 8TH 2PM-7PM.
